## What is workload management?

Workload management is making sure the work assigned to each person matches the time they actually have. Orangescrum books a task's estimated hours across the assignee's working days, records anything booked beyond a day's capacity as overload, and shows the result per person, so you can move work before a date is missed or somebody burns out.

02Where the load comes from

    Capacity comes from your configured working hours, the working week and company holidays, including second and fourth Saturdays.

    Approved leave removes those days from a person's capacity so nothing gets booked on top of it.
    
-   ### Built from estimated hours
    
    A task's estimated hours are spread across the assignee's working days, which is where the load in the view comes from.

## Workload management _FAQ_

### What is workload management?

Workload management makes sure the work assigned to each person matches the time they actually have. Orangescrum books estimated hours across a person's working days and shows the result, so overload is visible before it causes a delay.

### Which plan includes it?

Workload management is part of the resource management capability on the Cloud Premium plan, and is included in the Self-Hosted edition.

### Does it count work from every project?

Yes, and this is the important part. Bookings count all of a person's commitments across every project, so you see the real total rather than one project's view.

### How do I know who is overloaded?

Hours booked past what a person can do in a day are recorded as overload. They show on the day by day grid, in the per person summary, and in the over utilised count.

### Does Orangescrum rebalance the team for me?

No. There is no levelling engine and no automatic reassignment. It shows you the load, shows you when someone else could fit the work, and moves the booking when you make the call.

### Can I move work between people?

Yes. Reassign the task and the old booking is released, a new one is built across the new person's free days, and the task dates move with it.

### Is capacity realistic?

It is built from your configured working hours, your working week and your company holidays, rather than an assumption that everyone has five clear days. In the Self-Hosted edition, approved leave is removed too.

### How is this different from resource management?

Resource management is the broader capability, covering availability, booking, skills, utilisation and cost. Workload management is the part focused on how much each person is carrying right now.

### Is it in the open source edition?

No. The Community Edition covers projects, tasks, and boards. Workload management is in the Cloud Premium plan and the Self-Hosted edition.
