## What is a project management dashboard?

A project management dashboard is a single screen that answers the questions you would otherwise ask in a status meeting: what is on track, what is late, who is overloaded, and what has been spent. Orangescrum gives every person a dashboard built from a set of widgets they can show, hide, and reorder, with the layout starting from a sensible default for their role and saved for next time.

The problem

## Why status _takes so long to find_

The answer is spread across projects

Getting one number means opening every project and adding up.

✓ Widgets that already read across every project.

Reports are built by hand

Somebody rebuilds the same slide every week from the same data.

✓ A live view that reads from the work itself.

Everyone needs a different view

A developer, a delivery lead, and a director do not want the same screen.

✓ Different defaults by role, then hide what you do not want.

What you get

## The answer _on one screen_

Grouped the way the dashboard is used: making it yours, the portfolio widgets, the money and capacity ones, your own work, the per project view, and the reporting behind it.

01Your layout

- ### Custom dashboards

Build a view for a specific audience, pulling from any project you can see.

- ### A starting point per role

Admins and members open different default arrangements, so nobody starts from an empty screen.

- ### Drag widgets into order

Pick a widget up by its handle and drop it where you want it.

- ### Show or hide any widget

Turn individual widgets on and off, with select all, select none, and reset to default.

- ### It remembers you

Order and visibility are saved per person per workspace, so your screen is still yours next time.

- ### A responsive grid

Widgets take a fixed share of a twelve column grid and reflow on smaller screens.

- ### Filter inside a widget

Individual widgets carry their own searchable filters for project, programme, milestone, manager, status, role, person, and date range.

- ### Refresh on demand

Reload every widget at once without reloading the page. Available in Cloud.

- ### It updates live

Task and time log changes push to the dashboard as they happen. Available in Cloud.

02Portfolio

- ### Four headline numbers

Projects, tasks, resources, and time spent, each showing completed against total and the month on month trend.

- ### Project summary

A table of projects with owner, dates, status, and progress, filtered by programme, project, manager, or status.

- ### Overall project progress

A donut splitting projects into completed, on track, delayed, and at risk.

- ### Programme summary

The same table and donut one level up, for programmes rather than projects.

- ### Milestone summary

A milestone table and progress donut, filtered by project, milestone, or status.

- ### Top five projects

The five projects worth looking at first, without opening anything.

- ### Active against completed

How much of the portfolio is still running and how much has landed.

- ### Clients

A client chart for teams whose portfolio is organised by who it is for.

03Money

- ### Budget and cost report

A per project table of budget against actual cost, filtered to the project you care about.

- ### Budget against cost

The same comparison as a chart, for the version of the question a director asks.

- ### Project cost report

A full width breakdown of what a project has cost, built from logged hours and your rates.

- ### Resource cost report

The same figure per person, so you can see where the cost actually sits.

04Capacity

- ### Resource utilisation

How much of the team's available time is being used, on the same screen as delivery.

- ### Workload summary

What the team is carrying across a date range and a project.

- ### Storage

Total storage used and a breakdown by project, so a limit is never a surprise.

05Mine

- ### My tasks

Everything assigned to you, across every project, without checking each board.

- ### My overdue

Late work surfaces on its own instead of waiting to be found.

- ### Overdue and upcoming

A tabbed list of what is already late and what is about to be.

- ### My progress

A gauge of how much of your own work is done.

- ### My hours

The time you have logged, next to the work it was logged against.

- ### Time log chart

Hours by period, switchable between this week, last week, this month, and last month.

- ### Task status and task types

Two donuts breaking your work down by status and by type.

- ### Activity feed

What changed recently on the work you are involved in.

- ### Bookmarks

Your saved links on the dashboard, managed and reordered from their own page.

06Per project

- ### Its own overview

Every project has a status pie, time worked, its people, files, task types, to dos, groups, and recent activity.

- ### Cost on the overview

The RAG cost report and resource cost report sit on the project overview itself.

- ### Project notes

A place on the overview for the notes about the project that are not tasks.

07Deeper

- ### Embedded BI dashboards

Apache Superset dashboards are embedded in the product, scoped to the project you are in, with single sign-on handled for you.

- ### Build a chart from your data

A query driven chart builder for questions the standard widgets do not answer. Available in Self-Hosted.

- ### The full report set

Task analysis, time and resource, agile, and other reports sit behind the dashboard, each with CSV or PDF export.

- ### Widgets follow permissions

What a widget shows is worked out from your role before the screen is drawn, so a person never sees a number they are not allowed.

How it works

The dashboard works from day one, with a default layout picked for your role.

2

Hide the noise

Turn off the widgets that do not apply to you, and keep the handful that do.

3

Arrange it

4

Filter it

Point the widgets at the project, programme, or date range you actually care about.

Frequently asked questions

## Project dashboard _FAQ_

### What does the dashboard show?

A widget set covering headline counts for projects, tasks, resources and time, project, programme and milestone summaries with progress donuts, budget and cost, resource utilisation and workload, storage, and your own tasks, overdue work, hours, and activity.

### Does everyone get their own dashboard?

Yes. Every person has their own dashboard, and the layout they arrange is saved for them. That is available in every edition, including the free Community Edition.

### Can I choose which widgets appear?

Yes. Open the customise panel, turn individual widgets on or off, or use select all, select none, and reset to go back to the default for your role. Then drag the ones you kept into the order you want.

### Can I point a widget at one project?

Yes. Widgets carry their own filters for project, programme, milestone, manager, status, role, person, and date range, so two people can read the same widget about different work.

### Does the data update automatically?

Widgets read from the actual tasks, time logs, and costs, so they reflect the current state rather than the last time somebody updated a report. In Cloud the dashboard also refreshes itself as tasks and time logs change, and has a refresh button.

### Will people see numbers they should not?

No. What each widget may show is worked out from that person's role before the page is drawn, so cost and resource widgets simply do not appear for people without the permission.

### Can I build my own charts?

The dashboard is a set of widgets you choose, arrange, and filter, rather than a chart authoring tool. For your own charts, Cloud Premium and Self-Hosted embed Apache Superset dashboards inside the product, and Self-Hosted also includes a query driven chart builder.

### Is there a dashboard in the open source edition?

Yes. The Community Edition has the same personal dashboard with drag to reorder and show or hide, covering project, milestone, task, time, storage, and activity widgets. Cost, programme, workload, and BI widgets are not included.

### Can I export what is on a dashboard?

The reports behind the dashboard export to CSV or PDF in Cloud and Self-Hosted, which is the route to take when somebody needs the numbers in a spreadsheet or a deck.

## Answer the status question in one screen
